TAP voted Best Airline in Europe
Prizes awarded at the 8th annual gala awards ceremony of the American magazine Global Traveler in Beverly Hills, California, USA
TAP PORTUGAL was voted Best Airline in Europe among 30 internationally renowned airlines. This distinction came about as the result of an annual survey known as the GT Tested Reader Survey sponsored by the prestigious American travel and tourism magazine Global Traveler Magazine.
The award is of enormous significance since it is based on a survey of more than 36,000 frequent flyers and business passengers, who are invited to nominate "The Best” in various categories in the area of travel and tourism.
This year also marks the 8th year of the survey, which is considered the “Travel Oscars” in the sector, and the survey’s sterling reputation is due to the fact that the winners are chosen objectively and impartially by the magazine’s readers, who answered questionnaires printed in the magazine, online or by post or e-mail between 1 January and 31 August 2011.
GT readers are frequent flyers who rack up an average of 16 international flights and 16 domestic flights per year. With average annual salaries on the order of 340,000 USD, these elite readers spend an average of 80 nights in foreign countries and 40 nights away on domestic trips, and 78% travel in first or business class.
Employees of Global Traveler and members of the travel and tourism industry are prohibited from participating in the survey.
The GT Tested Reader Survey awards ceremony was held in the legendary Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on 1 December. During the ceremony, TAP was awarded the prize for Best Airline in Europe.
In addition to this prize, TAP received another prize that night from another competition sponsored by the same publication, the 2011 GT Wines on the Wing, where, as announced, TAP won the prize for Best Red Wine Served in International Business Class.
